Driving time and what to expect

One thing to plan around is the road inside the park. The Mesa Verde Museum and park headquarters are 20 to 21 miles south along the park road. So the drive does not end when you pass the entrance sign. You still have a stretch of park road between you and the main visitor area. Give yourself time for that part, and do not plan a tight schedule around the entrance alone.

Check the park's own website before you leave Durango. Road conditions inside the park can change, and the park posts current news there.
